Had this 2011 Cayenne Turbo in for an Escort 9500ci integrated Radar detector with laser shifters. It is a pretty complex install on a Cayenne to do it without hacking up the interior. Love the new interiors in the Cayenne’s! All the components laid out. A lot of stuff to install and wires to run. First started off in the rear and ran the wire up through the plastic latch housing and behind the interior door panel. The plastic trim …
This pepper came in today for it’s 40k service. Fairly basic, filters, spark plugs, oil change, and a good inspection and she was back on the road. Porsche has moved to changing plugs more often now in the newer cars, and they also go by an age or mileage interval. I love white peppers 🙂 I would destroy a tan interior though 🙁 The little v6, but a DFI motor 🙂 Spark plugs are right out in the open, though …
For a much more in depth write up, please see the tech article I wrote for our local Kansas City Region PCA. It can be found at www.kcrpca.org and click on the newsletter archives and find the September-October 2012 issue, download it and go to page 6. Everything is explained in more detail. A good buddy of mine brought over his 2011 Cayenne S for a trailer brake controller install the other day. The idea of a brake controller is …

Porsche Cayenne Brake Job
Had this Pepper come in this week for a full brake job. At about 70k miles, pads and rotors were pretty well shot. Wes pulling apart the front caliper/rotor assembly. Pads had triggered the light and the rotors were below the spec for thickness. One thing people tend to ignore when doing these brake jobs is to clean up the pad retaining hardware. Over time the brake dust and rust build up, and can cause the pads to hang up …

Cayenne Headlight Polishing
Another headlight polishing job. I did the easy part (the oil change), then dumped the polishing job on Wes because he loves it so much. I think it is one of his favorite jobs at the shop, he just goes crazy like a kid on Christmas. It is hard to contain really…… The lights have some significant hazing towards the centers and at the top. Lights removed from the car for the work. Passenger side….yuck. And the difference with a …

Cayenne Front Brake Pad Replacement
Had this little Cayenne come in the other day with a brake warning light on. With 80k miles on it, I think these were at least the original rotors, maybe the original pads if it was a highway mile vehicle. The rotors were worn far enough they were about ready to go through to the venting. Big 350mm rotors. If you look towards the bottom of the rotor, you can see the shiny lip, indicating how worn these rotors were. …

Porsche Certified Pre Owned:
I have seen this time and time again with Porsche CPO used cars. A poor inspection by the dealer, a CPO stamp, and put it on the lot as a perfect vehicle. The person getting hurt? The buyer, and Porsche themselves. This Cayenne Turbo was bought from a dealer down in Alabama where it was traded in, and the dealer CPO’d the car for resale. The CPO is the extended factory warranty that Porsche offers on approved used vehicles. It …

Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Brakes
Must be brake week here at the shop. Knocked out the front and rear brake pads on a turbo S today which had triggered a brake pad light. Pretty straight forward, but a lot easier with a few special tools. In position and ready to go up. God my floors really do look like crap. We have to remedy that. I know, everyone sees a Turbo S Cayenne, I see crappy floor finish. Just to give you an idea of …

Cayenne Driveshaft
Porsche introduced the Cayenne SUV in 2003, which later became it’s #1 selling vehicle. The model shares the same platform as the VW Touareg, and thus shares a lot of the same issues. One of those issues in the 03 and early 04 models was a driveshaft carrier bearing that would fail and cause a knocking, thumping, or as many describe it, a “wummering” sound. It can happen under hard acceleration, light acceleration, when there is an old lady crossing …

955 Cayenne Coolant Pipes
I’ve been slacking. Actually, I have been trying to cure myself of a typing error of many years. It appears that you are no longer to put 2 spaces after a period anymore due to the advances in computers, lol. I’ve hit that spacebar twice for the last 20 years or so. Not sure if I will be able to break the habit, but i’ll try. In the December 2010 issue of Excellence magazine, there was a great article about …
