Porsche 911 Rear Sway Bar Bracket Repair
This is a fairly common failure on the older 911’s. The rear sway bar bracket that is welded to the body where the sway bar bushing sides likes to break off, leaving the sway bar hanging loose and negatively affecting the rear end handling of the car. Here you can see it has broken off, and dropped down over an inch. The passenger side has broken at some point, and the old bracket was actually rewelded back together. Not the …
Took some time today to tear down this M96 motor to show you the internals of the 996/Boxster Engine: On the stand ready for dis assembly. First thing we do is pop the cam plugs out of the end of the cam housings so we can see the orientation of the camshafts. Starting with bank 1, the intake camshaft notch should be pointed outward when the crank is at TDC. If it is not, rotation 360 degrees and it should …

912/356 Battery charging…or overcharging
Charging heats the plates in the battery, batteries do not like temperature extremes. This is a very nice car that was left on a charger unattended and boiled the electrolyte out. When they boil over a lot of stuff gets devoured by the acid, the battery was ruined, the car won’t start, and someone has to clean that caustic crap outta this trunk, and the box re-coated to keep the caner out. You can see at the seam where metal has started to …

Had this nice ’05 745Li in the shop this week for a fluid leak from the transmission. After cleaning everything up, I noticed the drain plug was slightly loose, so I tightened that up, drove it and rechecked it. Unfortunately it was still leaking, apparently from the front corner of the pan, so time to pull the pan and repair the leak. Pan off the car. The hole on the left closest was the culprit, and while I figure the …
Have this nice Pepper in the shop this week for some big hp upgrades 😀 Why shouldn’t you have an SUV with over 600hp? Should make a nice grocery getter. A fun pile of parts. On the list: Fabspeed secondary cat bypass pipes. Fabspeed Maxflo muffler system. IPD intake plenum. Evolution Motorsports cold air intake system. Evolution Motorsports diverter valves. Evolution Motorsports ECU Tune. First up was the plenum. Off comes all the engine bay trim. OEM intake plenum. And …
My buddy Dan finally received his man card in the mail the other day, so he decided to pick up a center muffler delete pipe that we had on our GT3RS project for install. I had installed the custom GMG headers on the car last year and all was good, but it just didn’t have the sound a new GT3 should 🙂 While here, we also needed to swap in new rear pads for an um…..event coming up. It came …
Work continues on with our Project 996. The list kind of keeps growing on this car. New parts arrived and waiting for install. With the tranny out, I replaced the OAS since access is as good as it will get. New IMS bearing in place along with RMS. Measuring bolt length for the new lightweight flywheel. And the lightweight flywheel in place. And the clutch disc. Since the tranny is now back from Gbox for it’s rebuild, I will put …
Had this Cayenne come in the other day for a pesky oil leak and some hatch struts. The owner had seen a puddle of oil on the floor, cleaned it up, then it leaked no more. I thought that was a puzzling occurrence, so up in the air she goes! Some remnant oil was found on the lower shield, but nothing that looked like a huge puddle. Steering rack covered in oil as was the filter housing. Turns out whomever …
Had my buddy Mark bring in his 997 the other day for a little sound upgrade 😉 He had already done the fister/lpmm/gundo bypass mod, but wasn’t happy yet with the sound. On the watercooled motors, the bypass mod on the mufflers just doesn’t provide the deep throaty sound like it does on the 993’s. Instead, the best solution for these cars IMHO is to get rid of the center muffler using a bypass pipe. In this case, we are …
