944 Oil Leaks Part 2:
The latest round on the 944 finally showed some progress at the end of the day. The cam tower apart and ready to reseal. Waiting on one small cam plug before I can start reassembly. The front cam housing spacer sleeve wasn’t looking too good. Trying to make progress on the water pump. In all the years I have sold and installed 100’s of reman water pumps, I have seen 2 bad out of the box pumps. They both came …

944 Oil Leaks
Been an odd week of little service stuff here and there, nothing too important to speak of. Car is back together, and I am waiting on the ECU which is still at VF. They said GIAC’s servers were down and could not generate a file for the ECU and they were waiting on that…..hmmmm. I know all the tricks in this industry…….good to know somethings never change in this business. So, it is on to a 944 to address some …

944 Clutch Finished And Onto A 911
Got the 944 clutch finished up yesterday and sent it and the gray 911 on their way. Once I got the transaxle put back in and buttoned up the shifter, it was ready for a test drive. Car drove great, another 944 clutch under the belt. With cars leaving, the basic law of the universe states that others must come in to replace them, so on to the next project. This one is a bit of a head shaker for …

944 Clutch Continued
Seriously……3 changes of clothes today and 3 showers, lol. Should make 4 by the time I shut down for the night, lol! Nature of the beast. A half hour at the cleaners and the transaxle was at least clean enough to handle. Starting to get into the bellhousing. Lots of fun bolts to get to….they were tight like a tiger. Bellhousing off with the clutch assembly exposed. And with the pressure plate removed, it was like christmas, you think you …

Porsche 944 Clutch
Once the 911 was done, it was time to jump on the next project….a 944 clutch. The car started making some clunking noises when letting off the accelerator, which is a pretty strong indicator that the rubber center’d clutch is starting to fall apart. A few weeks ago, we took a quick look underneath, and found rubber in the bellhousing, so it needed to get done before the clutch completely failed. And a pile of clutch parts and related shifter …

Coooool Breeze
No, this post isn’t about a highly trained special forces member from the Unit, but rather an A/C day. Finally got the drier and seals I needed to charge up the 951’s a/c. Before I got to that though, I knocked out the timing and balance shaft belt since they were 8+ years old. Camera battery died as I was starting the job, so we have some missing pictures….this is the going back together stage, lol There, now that we …

944 Turbo Maintenance
Since summer is headed our way in Kansas, it is awfully nice to have a good working A/C system. Unfortunately, this car’s system stopped functioning last fall, so it was time to get it repaired before the season gets too hot. While I had the car, the owner wanted me to slap the a new rear M030 968 sway bar on to improve the handling. He had already installed the front, but hadn’t gotten to the rear yet, so I …
Aaron brought by his 968 last night to have me go through the speedometer cluster. The 944/968/911’s are notorious for the plastic odometer gears breaking, and thus the miles stop accumulating as you drive 😉 Aaron of course brought this in immediately when it broke 🙂 How do they break? Well over time, the plastic can get brittle and just flat fall apart, but the #1 cause is from people hitting the odometer/trip reset button while the car is moving. …

944 S2 Clutch
Saturday I headed over to the headquarters of the infamous KCWS and helped some good friends do a clutch job on a 944 S2 Cab. The car had died abruptly with no power getting to the rear wheels, so I figured the clutch center had blown out. The car has about 90k ish miles on it. Up in the air and ready to go. Everything behind the engine block needs to come out. Transaxle, torque tube (slide back), bellhousing, and …
