This ongoing project is…well….on going 🙂 While I am on the eternal wait for parts for other projects, I took the time to get started on the interior of this car. We are tackling some of it, and an interior shop is tackling the seat recover and carpet, etc. First thing was to finish up the rear end though. We got in new taillights, so I tackled that install first. The sealant used is Butyl tape for bonding the lights …

Put the little 944 back in the air today as the new exhaust showed up from Billy Boat for it! I love these exhausts on 944’s. They only make a cat back section, but it is a great sounding unit if you don’t want to mess with going to a full exhaust. From the rear 😉 While it was in the air, I dropped the suspension another 1/2″ to better accommodate the 15″ fuchs. I think the car came out …

Our web and marketing expert keeps telling me I have to be more “search orientated correct” in my blog title posts. In fact, I was told this as he held a nice big burger from Paul’s drive in under my nose. Everyone around here seems to think I am motivated by food for some reason (Send all Ho-ho’s, french fries, and donuts to the shop to my attention…I don’t eat foods that begin with the letter M (namely the big …

It’s Alive :)

Decided with the weather getting cold that I had better get the dragon back together after the headgasket blew.  Drove out to the storage unit and picked it up (ran into a customer from IA that I had not seen in a long time, so I stopped to help him on the side of the road as well, lol) Got it home and up on the lift. Turns out one of the fans had died in the 100 degree heat …

Since we couldn’t install the short shift kit in the 951 without major issues, we decided to install it in his other 944. Nothing was broken on this car, so it went in pretty easily, lol. Elevate the rear Waaay up there is the shift linkage. New short shifter. Old shift assembly Annnd installed. We had done the belts about 1500 miles ago, so it was time to retension them (new belts only). Now he will be good for 15k …

If you have a shifter that feels really sloppy in your 944, it is probably because the shift pin is worn out.  Generally this is an easy fix, pop in a new shift lever and usually it takes care of it.  On occasion though, the actual shift rod will wallow out, which is a little bigger issue. I have been doing some maintenance to the dragon to get it ready to sell, and one thing I have always had was …

Replaced a leaking output shaft seal on a 951 today.  It had gotten bad enough that it was leaving a puddle on the ground after driving, so it was time to replace it.  Remove the CV axle from the output shaft.  The bolts are typically 8mm triple square bits but they may have been replaced with 6mm allens at some point.   One the axle is out of the way, remove the 6mm allen in the center of the output shaft.  …

Update: Black 951

Well it was a slow week in regards to the black car.  Sitting waiting, waiting, waiting.  Yesterday afternoon though I got a call that the turbo was rebuilt and ready to be picked up.  So I ran across town and got it, and came home and got it installed and out of the way.  Now I am just waiting on another head to be rebuilt before putting it all back together.  The previous head was unusable due to the exhaust …

Updates…….

Been banging away at the cars in my spare time. Our 968 braking issue turned out to indeed be front warped rotors even though they only had 2000 miles on them.  Lesson learned here is that when common sense and experience tell you something is broken, don’t look past it just because that item has been replaced recently……new parts fail, rebuilt parts fail, new rotors warp, stuff happens.  The calipers had been rebuilt recently thinking it was an issue with …

89 944TS

With the 88 out of the garage, I had a good friend make his way down from South Dakota to fix some oil leaks on his Alpine White 89 Turbo S.  We tackled the belts and front engine seals on this trip, hung out with some good friends and just had a fantastic weekend. Yup, that is an engine Jones…… Removing the cam gear. Steve N. holding the car up, lol Back together after the front end seal and belt …
