VW Jetta TDI Repair RennsportKC
“There’s a new sheriff in town!” This little guy has been sitting behind one of the buildings a few doors down. We mow around it a lot, and never saw it move….ever. Today the owner of the car came by and needed it running again for his son to use while they find him a new car. They had tried to jump start it on Sunday, but couldn’t get it to do anything. Turns out the car has 340,000 miles …

VW GTI Boost Issue
Had this GTI in this week to diagnose a weird boost leak that it was having. Got it up on the lift and checked for the obvious loose hose connections of which there were quite a few. Snugged things down, then finally found the culprit. From underneath, I noticed a hose missing from the inlet of the turbo pipe. Not good. After a bunch of searching, I found it tucked behind a few hoses, so I reattached it and put …

2008 VW Jetta 2.0T Fan and Oil Burning
A good friend brought in her Jetta the other day so we could fix some issues she had been having. Over the last 30k miles or so, the car started using an excessive amount of oil. Many times this is due to a bad crankcase vent valve on the engine. She had taken the car to the local dealer under warranty to express her concerns and they brushed it off as nothing. Just keep adding oil they said. So while …

Jetta GLS Cam Followers
Replaced the hydraulic cam followers/tappets (or lifters as some people refer to them), on the Jetta GLS today. It has been seen in the past on the blog for clutch jobs, etc. Ahhh 2.0L’s of fury….or maybe furry. Hard to believe this car is about ready to roll 212k miles. Still looks like it has only 75k miles on it. With the intake and associated plumbing off, and the valve cover removed, we can see the camshaft and the followers …

1998 VW Jetta GLS Clutch Finished
Got the Jetta project buttoned up on Friday afternoon. Spent quite a bit of time replacing the oil seals on the transaxle as they had all pretty much become “one” with the transaxle, lol. Homemade special tool KEW1920.B to remove the axles. You have to compress the axle, remove the circlip, then pull the axle out, all with a tool Getting the clip out. Stub axle and spring out. Old Seal New Seal installed. And using the tool to reinstall …

1998 Jetta 2.0 GLS Clutch Change
Helping a good freind out with the clutch on his Jetta. This 1998 Jetta has over 200k miles on it and still running strong! The clutch pedal was starting to release quite high, and he wanted to get it done before winter set in. We probably could have bought a little time by adjusting the clutch arm, but would have eventually had to go in there to do the clutch. Well, it definitely is not without oil leaks….. So I …
